How are the majors set up in Search360/does this align to our catalog when we add our campus filter?

Written by Amanda Kallach

In Search360, when you filter to a specific campus, the results are still organized using our broader major taxonomy. The college filter just narrows the population, it doesn’t apply to that campus’ own list of majors.

Search360 is built on national, cross school data, so we use a standardized taxonomy to group similar programs together, even if schools name them differently. That consistency is what makes it possible to compare outcomes like careers, salaries, skills, and employers across institutions.

If a local major doesn’t map cleanly, the best approach is to align it using CIP codes from the NCES framework. Sometimes the closest match is a bit broader or more specific depending on how the program is defined. We don’t yet have a shareable catalog-to-CIP crosswalk, but that’s something we’re working toward putting into a sharable version.
